Type 1 Connector

The Type 1 connector, or the SAE J1772 connector, is commonly used in North America and Japan. However, in India, this connector is not very popular. This connector has a five-pin configuration for Level 1 and Level 2 charging. The Type 1 connector can deliver up to 7.2 kW of power and is compatible with most electric vehicles.

Type 2 Connector

The Type 2 connector, or the Mennekes connector, is commonly used in Europe. However, this connector is becoming more popular in India, especially in high-end EVs. This connector has a seven-pin configuration and is designed for Level 2 charging. The Type 2 connector can deliver up to 22 kW of power and is compatible with most electric vehicles.

CCS1 Connector 

The CCS1 connector, or the Combined Charging System Level 1 connector, is commonly used in North America. However, in India, this connector is not yet widely available. This connector has a nine-pin configuration for Level 1 and Level 2 charging. The CCS1 connector can deliver up to 80 kW of power and is compatible with most electric vehicles.

CCS2 Connector 

The CCS2 connector, the Combined Charging System Level 2 connector, is commonly used in Europe. However, in India, this connector is not yet widely available. This connector has a nine-pin configuration and is intended for DC fast and Level 2 charging. The CCS2 connector can deliver up to 350 kW of power and is compatible with most electric vehicles.

CHAdeMO Connector 

The CHAdeMO connector is commonly used in Japan and is gaining popularity in Europe. However, in India, this connector is also not yet widely available. This connector has a nine-pin configuration and is designed for fast DC charging. The CHAdeMO connector can deliver up to 62.5 kW of power and is compatible with most electric vehicles.

  • Level 1 Charger 

The Level 1 charger is an entry-level charger that fits into a regular 120V socket. This charger can deliver up to 2 kW of power and is suitable for overnight charging. The Level 1 charger is typically included with most electric vehicles and is useful for emergency charging. However, it is not a practical solution for daily charging as it takes a long time to charge an EV fully.

  • Level 2 Charger[h3]

The Level 2 charger is a more powerful one requiring a dedicated 240V outlet. This charger can deliver up to 22 kW of power and is suitable for home and public charging stations. The Level 2 charger is typically sold separately from the electric vehicle. In India, many EV owners install a Level 2 charger at their homes for convenience.

  • DC Fast Charger

he DC Fast Charger, also known as a Level 3 charger, is India’s most powerful EV charger. This charger requires a three-phase power supply with a power output of up to 350 kW. The DC Fast Charger is designed for public charging stations and can charge an EV to 80% in 30 minutes. However, this charger is expensive and requires significant infrastructure to install.

  • Portable Charger

A portable charger is a compact and lightweight charger that can be carried in the trunk of an electric vehicle. This charger is typically used as a backup option or for emergency charging. Portable chargers can be Level 1 or Level 2 and deliver up to 7.2 kW of power. However, they are unsuitable for daily charging as they take longer to charge an EV than a dedicated Level 2 charger. Choosing the right EV connector and charger for your electric vehicle is important for ensuring efficient and safe charging.
