As the world transitions towards a sustainable future, electric vehicles (EVs) are also gaining popularity in India. With the government encouraging the use of electric vehicles, the need for charging infrastructure is increasing significantly. However, charging an EV requires different equipment and infrastructure than charging traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. This is where understanding the different EV chargers and connectors becomes important.  

EV chargers come in different shapes and sizes, each with a specific purpose. On the other hand, EV connectors vary by region and are designed to match the charging infrastructure of that region. In India, multiple types of connectors and chargers are available for EVs.

Type 1 Connector  

The Type 1 connector, or the SAE J1772 connector, is commonly used in North America and Japan. However, in India, this connector is not very popular. This connector has a five-pin configuration for Level 1 and Level 2 charging. The Type 1 connector can deliver up to 7.2 kW of power and is compatible with most electric vehicles.
